AQUA MASTER™ Disinfectant system

The AQUA MASTER system produces a powerful disinfectant by applying an electrical current through a dilute sodium chloride (table salt) solution.  The disinfectant produced from the electrolyzed water (EW) has a very high Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP; 1226) and is compromised of activated and reactive hypochlorous acid. The activated hypochlorous acid solution contains available chlorine that readily disinfects pathogens on a variety of surfaces.  Numerous studies have shown that this disinfectant has broad spectrum potent biocidal activity. It readily inactivates bacteria, spores, fungi, viruses, and protozoan parasites.  The disinfectant produced electro-chemically has been trademarked as BIO-ACTIVE.

The AQUA MASTER  can be effectively incorporated into existing systems for the eradication and control of microbial pathogens and contamination in:

  • Drinking water
  • Recreational bathing waters
  • Biological contamination control
  • Food preparation, storage, and preservation
  • Hard surface sanitization
  • Food and hospitality industry
  • Health and Recreational facilities
  • Environmental decontamination
  • Agricultural washing and disinfecting
  • Industrial water treatment
  • Cooling water systems

Sodium hypochlorite (Chlorine based bleach) has been used throughout the world for the decontamination of water and surfaces.  It was discovered in the late 18th century when researchers found that injecting salt water with electrical current broke down the salt (sodium chloride) molecules and produced a compound called sodium hypochlorite. This discovery enabled the mass production of sodium hypochlorite, or chlorine bleach.  This bleach has since been used extensively and predominantly in water treatment and sanitation.  Over the years, several advancements have been made in the technology required to produce disinfectants through electrochemical activation of salt solutions.

The AQUA MASTER Disinfectant generating system harnesses these technological advances in a small portable unit that is user friendly and efficient.  It utilizes an electrolytic cell to produce powerful oxidant hypochlorous acid.  A stream of water mixed with sodium chloride (salt) flows through the cell, and the activated oxidant is formed when an electrical current passes through the cell. What sets this technology apart from the competition is its proprietary and novel semi-permeable membrane that separates the positive and negative electric poles in the cell.  The patented membrane lasts significantly longer than membranes found in other EW units.  This new membrane is very resilient and readily withstands the voltage, temperature and constant vibrations generated inside the cell.  It is superior in composition and design to other membranes and thus allows this unit to overcome the durability problems that have caused other EW units to fail.  The AQUA MASTER membrane allows the necessary movement of salt ions, but it does not allow water molecules to pass.   The modular physical arrangement of the electrodes and their separation by a membrane is illustrated in Figure 1.

The electro-catalytic cells of the AQUA MASTER exhibit long and reliable operating lives. They consume relatively small quantities of electricity and eliminate the need for the storage and handling of expensive and sometimes dangerous chemicals. The units are user friendly and do not require operation by skilled personnel. Because it is extremely economical to operate, the AQUA MASTER provides a simple and effective means of sanitizing many surfaces and substrates.

The disinfectant produced by the AQUA MASTER unit is unique and different than the Electrolyzed water produced by other commercially available units.  Extensive testing and adjustments on the AQUA MASTER operating parameters has resulted in the production of a superior disinfectant solution that out performs all other commercially available Electrolyzed water disinfectants.  The units operating voltage, amperage, pH, salt concentration, flow rate, and hypochlorous ion concentration have all been adjusted and optimized.  The unique selected parameters have been programmed into the unit’s electronic controls.  These parameters are redundantly checked through out the disinfectant production process and are internally self-adjusted by the unit’s controller to produce a constant, steady stream of the disinfectant. The result is a potent disinfectant that is stable for prolonged periods of time and that is relatively residue free upon drying.

The pH of the produced disinfectant is maintained at approximately 2.0.  The salt-feed pump internally adjusts its self to provide an ionic strength optimal for the cell’s operating conditions.  The operating voltage of the cell is maintained at 24 volts and the amperage is controlled to approximately 23 amps.  This sets the unit apart from other commercially available units.  These unique designed operating parameters result in a disinfectant solution that contains 50-60 ppm of hypochlorous acid and that is relatively stable.   This concentration is much higher that other commercially available Electrolyzed Water and thus results in the superior antimicrobial efficacy and stability.

The AQUA MASTER produces its powerful sanitizer when an electrical field is applied to the cells, creating an activated hypochlorous acid solution called BIO-ACTIVE.  This potent solution effectively disinfects liquids and hard surfaces.   The antimicrobial efficacy of BIO-ACTIVE has been extensively evaluated by researchers at BCS Laboratories, Inc. (Gainesville, FL) and the University of Florida.  Data collected indicated that  BIO-ACTIVE effectively inactivates a variety of dangerous human pathogens (Table 1).

The AQUA MASTER electrochemical system is the basis for a comprehensive and effective disinfection and sanitization.   It produces a safe, natural, and highly effective solution for the inactivation of microorganisms that threaten public health and safety. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, hypochlorous acid is an effective and safe sanitizing agent for use on food and contact surfaces.  The BIO-ACTIVE solution produced, contains less than 50 ppm total chlorine and thus it is approved as a food, fruit, and vegetable wash and rinse.

The BIO-ACTIVE solution can be used for the effective disinfection of a variety of surfaces that people may come into contact with.  All the ingredients used and produced are classified by the US FDA as Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS).  Their use is approved for human contact and is consistent with appropriate FDA regulations.  Additionally, the application of the BIO-ACTIVE solution onto a surface disinfects the surface thoroughly and leaves minimal residue when it dries. Thus it is an excellent disinfectant for combating biological contamination in public areas due to its negligible toxicity and effective biocidal activity.

The BIO-ACTIVE solution is produced and most effective at a pH of 2.1.  However, the pH of the solution can be adjusted as needed.  The AQUA MASTER also produces a stream of liquid called AquaKleener (Redulite).  This liquid has a pH of approximately 11.8 and is rich in sodium hydroxide (NaOH).  The AquaKleener is an excellent and safe surface cleaning solution that readily removes dirt and grime from a wide variety of surfaces.  The combination of solutions produced by the AQUA MASTER provides an effective solution for a variety of industries that require healthy, natural disinfection of their products or processes (Figure 2).  The AQUA MASTER produces an effective sanitizing solution for the destruction and control of pathogens on a variety of surfaces.
